John Brawley
Greetings - thanks for visiting my site. My name is John Brawley. I started Saquish Anglers in 2007, to provide high quality guiding services throughout the Duxbury, Kingston, and Plymouth Bay region I've listed some facts about myself and the service below.
I grew up in Westport, CT which is located on western Long Island Sound. I began fishing around age 3 with my dad. He was the outdoors editor at Sports Illustrated for 30+ years and was constantly setting up writing assignments for his primary fishing writer Clive Gammon. But outside of his work, he took me along on daily excursions throughout Saugatuck Harbor and the Norwalk Islands to find striped bass, blues, mackerel, bonito, weakfish, fluke, flounder, and whatever else. Throughout my 20s and 30s I lived and fished primarily in Chesapeake Bay, Boston's north shore, and the Cape. I've traveled to many locations to fish: Baja, Ireland, England, Oregon, the Bahamas, Florida, the entire US east coast, and throughout the Gulf of Mexico. East Africa is my next destination.
I have a Ph.D. in marine ecology from the University of Maryland. In addition to fishing, I have a shellfish farm in Duxbury Bay where I grow oysters and bay scallops for Island Creek Oysters. I also started a marine sciences consulting company with fellow farmer and scientist Alex Mansfield. This company is called Saquish Scientific and we support government and private industry projects ranging from water quality studies to coastal restoration projects.
